Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions families ask us most - about our team, our one-day model, fees, and what to expect.
At Monarch, every assessment is conducted by all three members of our multidisciplinary team - a paediatrician, psychologist, and speech pathologist - all on the same day. Our team collaborates closely throughout the process to ensure a thorough and integrated outcome.
Speech pathology is about much more than whether a child can speak. Our speech pathologists assess how your child understands and uses language, engages in conversation, and communicates socially - all of which are core features of autism. A speech pathology assessment is a vital part of a comprehensive autism evaluation, regardless of your child's verbal ability.
Our paediatricians provide the medical foundation of the assessment. They take a detailed developmental history, review your child's medical background, and assess for co-occurring conditions that are common alongside autism - such as ADHD, sleep difficulties, or sensory processing differences. The paediatric component ensures that no medical factors are missed and that your child's full health picture is considered.
The length of an assessment depends on the type of assessment and your child's age and presentation. A full multidisciplinary autism assessment typically involves several sessions with different members of our team, all completed in a single day at our Williams Landing clinic. Our administration team will give you a clear overview of what to expect when booking.
Monarch Autism Assessment is a paediatric specialist clinic. We assess children and adolescents. Please contact us to discuss your child's age and the most appropriate assessment for their needs.
No. All assessments at Monarch are conducted in person at our Williams Landing clinic. We believe in-person assessment delivers the most accurate and comprehensive outcomes for children and adolescents, and our clinic is designed to provide a comfortable, child-friendly environment.
Once all assessment sessions are complete, your family takes a short break while our multidisciplinary team reviews the findings together and formulates a diagnostic outcome. Later that same day, you will return to the clinic for a feedback session, where the diagnostic outcome, treatment options, and management recommendations are discussed with you in plain language. Your comprehensive written report is not provided on the day of your feedback session - it is completed and sent to you within a quick turnaround time afterwards, depending on whether any additional external information is required.
Our reports are designed to be clear and comprehensive, and can support NDIS access requests or plan reviews where relevant. Our paediatricians can also provide supporting medical documentation. Please discuss your specific circumstances with our team.
